So long Donnie…

Greeley Woods

So long Donnie, we hardly knew you…I used to give you shit when you joked about dying soon…I guess you knew you’re time wasn’t long…I have a fond memory sitting beneath this tree with you after a Mad Happy show in 2005 I believe….we walked off the train and up into the woods…we had some forties left and smoked some grass and you reminesced about the times you used to come up here when you were in Bell School…now you’re part of the landscape yourself…both physically as well as spiritually…the kids down below running around oblivious to my presence as well as your spirit….it’s all about being socially promoted these days…it’s one thing that has led to two wars as well as the financially robbery of the country by Wall Street…individuals do not make moral choices anymore…as Bowie had to die, I think your time was done too….may you rest in peace as the beast slopes towards Behthelhem…the center can not hold…the best lack conviction and the worst are full of passionate intensity…

In the moment…

September 17, 2009

Sisters
Been living in the moment…with my camera and my thoughts…these moments come and I take out the camera and snap them…it’s a zen beatnick thing not to drop cliches…but with an eye to the ever changing light and the fast pace of modern day scenery the moments just keep on unfolding speeding by like a jet plane hell bent on destruction…not in in my wildest dream did I think I would be hanging out with the Nickerson sisters who I grew up with back in the day…yet here Diane is along with her sister Donna in some of them in hundreds of pictures…it all seemed very natural whether we were in the gorge in the ‘qua or down in Manhattan…

Living in the moment the insights come naturally….the conversations I have been having with the girls added insights into situations that happened decades ago…this going on while all the time the light was dancing in different pantomines of being…again, it all seemed very natural…

Complaints….

September 10, 2009

Greeley's Dam
I came into yoga class tonight a little late. The reason I was late was because I had to delay putting the money into the ticket machine. This is the only club you have to do this at and they are real nazi’s about it, Thirty seconds late and they will slam you with a fine. So I waited a bit. I was only doing yoga tonight so I didn’t want to spend the money for another hour. When I came into class the instructor Sylvia asked me to be quiet. She said people had been complaining about the mats. Now I found that interesting. Being that this yoga class is in a sports gym I don’t complain when most of the people in the class are not on a high level. Who am I to judge but I could make that complaint and that’s my point. Yoga is about letting go and these peoplle get uptight about the sound of a mat dropping. Now that blows my mind…

Patti Smith at Westhampton

September 6, 2009

Patti and her band did a fabulous set out at the Westhampton Arts Center on August 15, 2009.
Here’s a fine rendition of her poem Piss Factory.

The Art of the Mundane

September 6, 2009

Greeley Woods
The art of the Mundane…seeing transcendental beauty which lies right in your back yard…it’s not Hollywood…it’s not page Six…it’s not a tattoo…it’s not lipstick..it just is…the glowing warmth against the trunk of the tree…if you’re in the moment with it I don’t think there is anything more beautiful…warm September light mixing against the fading green of the trees…

Sports and Social Media: Where Opportunity and Fear Collide

September 6, 2009

blockquote cite=”http://mashable.com/2009/09/05/sports-and-social-media/”And that’s just it. Social media is a compliment to sports. While it presents a few new challenges, the opportunities are abundant and everyone from the athlete on the field to the network executive can reap the rewards. Now is the time to make your product the best it can be, to let fans, players, and broadcast talent own their opinions and game experiences, and combine the pristine content with the off-the-cuff variety to engage fans like never before./blockquotep class=”citation”cite cite=”http://mashable.com/2009/09/05/sports-and-social-media/”a href=”http://mashable.com/2009/09/05/sports-and-social-media/”/a/cite/pMashable Associate Editor Jennifer Grove is on to something here. In her article she explores the social media policy of professional sports.nbsp; It is an area of concern of mine since I don’t like it when concert venues restrict video taping and digital snapshots.nbsp; Grove makes a valuable insight when she she says the sports leagues are worried about losing control of the message.nbsp; She cites the USTA banning twittering from its athletes as well as the NFL saying it will fine anyone twittering during a game.div class=”flockcredit” style=”text-align: right; color: #CCC; font-size: x-small;”Blogged with the a href=”http://www.flock.com/blogged-with-flock” style=”color: #999; font-weight: bold;” target=”_new” title=”Flock Browser”Flock Browser/a/div

The flow of information…

September 2, 2009

The flow of information….I believe in it whole heartedly….we live in the digital age…things should be transparent which is a result of free flow of information…I wasn’t able to bring my cameras in…it turns out I could have but once again I listened to the wrong people…so it goes…..that was my fault…so this video was taken by my freind Diane….she did a good job and she captures the spirit of the Micahel Franti in concert…he brings an amazing energy to his shows…I’m sensitive to it because I do yoga and that whole rastafarian vibe taps into that…his show at Terminal 5 in New York City on September 1 was no exception.. He displayed a wide range of musical ideas within the reggae framework..nbsp; His band was tight and they rocked a willing house.nbsp; I prefer to be more involved than being a passive onlooker.nbsp; It’s one reason I like bringing in my camera gear.nbsp; Being cool and jumping around is a lot of fun and indeed I had a great time but for me I was on a higher spiritual plane when I was kicking it in Central Park.nbsp; When the flow of information is restricted it makes me feel inhabited.nbsp; It’s the restriction of information and individual passiviity that I believe has given us two wars and the great Wall Street shakedown.nbsp; I am not saying this is any of Michael Franti’s fault.nbsp; His music was all inclusive and he even mentioned not to forget the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.nbsp;nbsp; As you can see this from this video, the atmosphere was electric and the crowd fully involved
